DWC is a professional ecological consultancy established in 1990 and based in Exeter. We are a team of experienced ecologists and provide our customers with a range of ecological services across Devon and the south-west of England.

DWC prides itself on offering a pragmatic approach to ecological survey, assessment and mitigation. As the consultancy of the Devon Wildlife Trust, our clients can be assured of a professional and informed service, with the proceeds supporting a major wildlife organisation.

Carly Ireland MSc MCIEEM – Senior Consultant (P/T)

♦ Ecological project management of large supermarket and housing development schemes
♦ Dormouse surveys, mitigation and licensing (EPSL). Natural England licensed surveyor.

Carly is a highly experienced ecologist, having over thirteen years experience of working in ecological consultancy, and has worked for DWC since 2005. She is experienced in ecological project management, survey and mitigation for a wide range of development schemes.

Li-Lian Williams MEnvSci MCIEEM – Senior Ecologist

♦ Ecological project management of large infrastructure and housing development schemes
♦ Appropriate Assessment (HRA) and Ecological Impact Assessment
♦ Dormouse surveys and mitigation. Natural England licensed surveyor
♦ Natural England Development Licences (EPSL) for dormice
♦ Great Crested Newt surveys and mitigation. Natural England licensed surveyor

♦ BREEAM and Code for Sustainable Homes SQE

Li-Li leads the team and has over ten years of experience in consultancy, having previously worked as part of an Environmental Impact Assessment team in an engineering consultancy, with ongoing experience in a diverse array of project work including highways, infrastructure and residential development projects.

Kitty Straghan BSc (Hons) ACIEEM – Consultant Ecologist

♦ Protected species surveys including Bats, Dormice, Badgers, Otters, Water Vole and Reptiles
♦ Baseline surveys (Extended Phase 1 Habitat/Preliminary Ecological Appraisal)

Kitty is an experienced ecologist with extensive field experience including Extended Phase 1 Habitat Surveys, botanical, NVC and protected species surveys and site supervision. She has previously worked on large projects including South Devon Link Road and has an excellent knowledge of wildlife and habitats in Devon having previously worked as a freelance ecologist for consultancies throughout South West England.

Tom Nitti BSc (Hons) GradCIEEM – Assistant Ecologist

♦ Great Crested Newt surveys and mitigation. Natural England licensed surveyor
♦ Protected species surveys including Bats, Dormice, White-Clawed Crayfish and Reptiles
♦ National Vegetation Classification (NVC) habitat classification and botanical survey work
♦ Baseline surveys (Extended Phase 1 Habitat/Preliminary Ecological Appraisal)

Tom joined DWC in 2015 and is an ecologist whose field experience includes Extended Phase 1 Habitat Surveys, protected species surveys and NVC/botanical surveys. He also has experience of invertebrate ISIS surveys and an extensive knowledge of UK ant species. He is working towards his dormouse and bat licences.

Rob Johns BSc (Hons) GradCIEEM – Assistant Ecologist

♦ Breeding and winter bird surveys including Cirl Buntings
♦ Devon Biodiversity Action Plan species surveys including Nightjar, Pearl-Bordered Fritillary, Southern Damselfly and Great Green Bush-Cricket
♦ Habitat management advice and practical work including heathlands, woodlands and grazing marsh
♦ Green services for a variety of sites ranging from development sites to nature reserves

Rob joined DWC in 2015. His field experience includes Extended Phase 1 Habitat Surveys and protected species surveys including bat, badger, white-clawed crayfish and great crested newt. He also has a strong background in habitat management and maintenance, holding licences for chainsaw, brushcutter, pesticides, tractor, first aid and ATVs.

Kari Bettoney BSc (Hons) TechCertArb – Seasonal Ecologist

♦ Bat roost surveys and mitigation. Natural England licensed bat surveyor (Class 1 and Class 2)
♦ Baseline surveys (Extended Phase 1 Habitat/Preliminary Ecological Appraisal)
♦ Botanical surveys including tree surveys
♦ Experienced in practical habitat management and conservation

Kari is well-versed in notable and protected species surveys within Devon and the South West, having a background in freelance ecology and as a project leader for BTCV.  She specialises in bats, and is experienced in harp trapping, mist netting, bat activity surveys and bat roost inspections/surveys
