DWC is a professional ecological consultancy established in 1990 and based in Exeter. We are a team of experienced ecologists and provide our customers with a range of ecological services across Devon and the south-west of England.

DWC prides itself on offering a pragmatic approach to ecological survey, assessment and mitigation. As the consultancy of the Devon Wildlife Trust, our clients can be assured of a professional and informed service, with the proceeds supporting a major wildlife organisation.

Carly Ireland MSc MCIEEM – Senior Consultant (P/T)

♦ Ecological project management of large supermarket and housing development schemes
♦ Appropriate Assessment (HRA) and Ecological Impact Assessment
♦ Dormouse surveys, mitigation and licensing (EPSL). Natural England licensed surveyor.

♦ Great crested newt surveys, mitigation and licensing (EPSL).

♦ BREEAM and Code for Sustainable Homes SQE

Carly is a highly experienced ecologist, having over 16 years experience of working in ecological consultancy, and has worked for DWC since 2005. She is experienced in ecological project management, survey and mitigation for a wide range of development schemes, including carrying out Habitat Regulations Assessments and policy services.

Li-Lian Williams MEnvSci MCIEEM – Senior Ecologist

♦ Ecological project management of large infrastructure and housing development schemes

♦ Dormouse surveys and mitigation. Natural England licensed surveyor.
♦ Natural England Development Licences (EPSL) for dormice

Li-Li leads the team and has over 13 years of experience in consultancy, having previously worked as part of an Environmental Impact Assessment team in an engineering consultancy, with ongoing experience in a diverse array of project work including highways, infrastructure and residential development projects.

Kitty Straghan BSc (Hons) ACIEEM – Consultant Ecologist

♦ Botanical surveys including National Vegetation Classification (NVC)
♦ Bat surveys and mitigation. Natural England licensed surveyor
♦ Protected species surveys including Bats, Dormice, Badgers, Otters, Water Vole and Reptiles
♦ Baseline surveys (Extended Phase 1 Habitat/Preliminary Ecological Appraisal)

Kitty joined DWC in 2015 and is an experienced ecologist with extensive field experience including Extended Phase 1 Habitat Surveys, botanical, NVC and protected species surveys and site supervision. She has previously worked on large projects including South Devon Link Road and has an excellent knowledge of wildlife and habitats in Devon having previously worked as a freelance ecologist for consultancies throughout South West England.

Tom Nitti BSc (Hons) GradCIEEM – Consultant Ecologist

♦ Dormouse surveys and mitigation. Natural England licensed surveyor

Tom joined DWC in 2015 and is an ecologist whose field experience includes Extended Phase 1 Habitat Surveys, protected species surveys and NVC/botanical surveys. He also has experience of invertebrate surveys and an extensive knowledge of UK ant species. 

Adam Johns BSc (Hons) – Assistant Ecologist

♦ Protected species surveys including great crested newts, reptiles, breeding birds and invertebrates
♦ Habitat management advice and practical work
♦ Baseline surveys (Extended Phase 1 Habitat/Preliminary Ecological Appraisal)

Adam joined DWC in 2019. His consultancy experience includes Extended Phase 1 Habitat Surveys, protected species surveys including  reptile and great crested newt, and habitat management and advice, holding a brushcutter licence.

Sam McNeil BSc (Hons) – Seasonal Assistant Ecologist

♦ Protected species surveys including reptiles, badgers and bats
♦ Baseline surveys (Extended Phase 1 Habitat/Preliminary Ecological Appraisal)

Sam joined DWC in 2019. Her survey experience includes mires, and protected species surveys including reptiles, badgers and bats.
